This did the job!
We replaced the drum rollers on our older Maytag electric dryer first. That was not the problem. Then, we found a post that suggested replacing the blower wheel. The suggestion seemed to be wrong because when we turned the drum, the noise sounded as though it came from the motor or back of the dryer. But, we went ahead and replaced the blower wheel. That did the trick. Turned out that the fitting for the wheel had wallowed out and thumped and bumped when the dryer was starting up, running, and shutting down - all were different sounds. One site that we found after the repair said that if this wheel turns freely, it needs to be replaced. So, we are now using a very old, quiet dryer. We saved a ton by spending some time and doing the repair ourselves, eventhough we replaced two parts in the process and only one was necessary. We did invest in one tool we did not have: a retainer clip remover. That made the work much easier. My husband did a great job with the best swamper available -...
Great part, though you probably don't really need it
Yeah this is the part you are looking for if your center hole is reamed in a perfect circle and is now slipping on the shaft. But your dryer is old and you want to get it working tonight since you finally took it apart. Just redneck repair it and it will be good as new. Just fashion a key with some wood or metal or whatever you have laying around, shove it in the hole as you put the fan back on the shaft, cut about a 1" section of rubber hose with a little bigger diameter than the shaft, slit the hose section, wrap it around the shaft/plastic part of fan and secure it tightly to the shaft with a hose clamp that you can tighten with a screwdriver or socket. This should keep your squirrel cage attached securely to the shaft for the rest of the life of your dryer. But this is a great part if you can go without your dryer while you wait for this to show up.
Believe it or not, this is identical to original part at this incredible price.
I was a little skeptical when I first found this item here because the price was so low. A call to a local supplier came up with a price of $30 for this part which is 15 times what I paid here. There is no need to worry about this being a low quality knock-off. This is identical to the original part and, in fact, is manufactured by the same company that made the original part. I don't know how this supplier can have such an incredible price but it's the real deal. On top of that, I ordered it on Friday and had it on Monday and that was USPS. I paid $2 more for expedited shipping but the total bill was still less than $10. It was shipped within minutes of placing the order. Have complete confidence if you are thinking of buying this part.
