Hoover SteamVac Bare Floor Cleaning Attachment 48417008 (Old # 48417003)

Might as well use a mop
I ordered this part because I already had the Hoover SteamVac for our carpets and wanted to see how it did on the tile flooring in the kitchen. It took a couple minutes to get snapped on to the vacuum correctly, but is otherwise easy to use and clean afterwards. From what I could tell, it cleaned the floor probably as well as a regular mop, but it took about three times as long (once over with the solution, then a couple more times to suck up all the water, not to mention the maneuverability is a pain!) The SteamVac itself is great, but I wouldn't recommend the bare floor attachment, unless you have a lot of extra time to kill.

Make sure you install it correctly
This attachment dramatically improves the performance of the Steam Vac on bare floors. I think that people that rate it low are not putting it correctly onto the machine. It doesn't snap on in one motion but rather it slides on in a circular motion. You have to click it into place all the way, there are two clicks that occur BEFORE you reach the full on position. When installed correctly, you should not see any holes when viewed from above.

I have cleaned wood floors and tiled floors and the attachment leaves less water behind than a mop does. Be careful about popped nails in the floor as it will damage the rubber squeegee on the attachment.

Confucious say: Don't use cannon to kill mosquito.
The Hoover SteamVac is an amazing carpet cleaner, but it is NOT the best choice for hard floors. It's basically just a rubber mesh wrapped around an oblong piece of black plastic. It just dumps soapy water on the floor, then vacuums half of that water back up.
