20-25 degree drop
This seemed to work as advertised. On arrival, I plugged it into the AC, then placed a meat thermometer into an empty glass, probe end up, to measure the interior air temp - it was about 20-25 degrees less than ambient (about 75). I then placed a single room-temp unopened soda can with a meat thermometer duct-taped to the side. A few hours later, it was cooled about 20-25 degrees below ambient temp. The fan was moderate in noise - noticeable, but not too bad in a large room. The shelf is removable. It came with both AC and 12 volt (car lighter) cords.
Peltier-effect devices take time to move a large quantity of heat from the interior to the exterior (e.g., when cooling a large thermal mass from room temp). I suspect it may work better for smaller items, or for pre-cooled items. In my house, this cooler did not reach the suggested 40 degree refrigerator temperature, so I doubt it would replace a compressor type of refrigerator in a warm climate. However, it did make...
Buyer Beware
The description of this fridge states it will cool to 32 degrees below room temperature, however the box it comes it says it only cools to 20 degrees below room temperature. That's a big difference that will just not work if you want to keep something from spoiling! Returning immediately.
Bought this for Breast Milk Storage
