Perfect for prepping!
So we like to make our own jerky since it will stay good in the cupboard for quiet a while. However it stays much longer in a vacuum sealed bag. Ive been looking into several different makes and models and this one came along at a fantastic price so I gave it a try.
This sealer comes with 4 starter bags and an accessory tube for canisters (along with an instruction manual READ IT). We experimented with making different shapes and sizes of bags, and as long as you follow the instructions this seal-a-meal is a dream to use.
This product isn't for commercial use so you have to give it a small cool down period. You also need to keep about an inch and a half free for sealing, sometimes we had to hold it down after the hands free light came on because we had too much in the bag.
This product is fantastic and I plan to use it quiet a bit over the next several months. If your on the fence about which one of these types of products to buy, get this one.. You...
Practice makes perfect.
This isn't difficult to operate. As a 'guy' that doesn't read instructions however; I wasted a bag or two. The directions are clear sort. 1st you MUST leave enough plastic to seal your food. I thought 3" was a bit too much. If your food is a larger piece you'll need that extra area when you seal it since the bag will stretch around your item and pull. If you don't have enough material the suction seal won't work and it won't seal. The next thing I didn't realize was that you MUST stick the end that you're sealing into the trough (trough with the rubber seal around it). There are little nibs that kind of hold the bag in place there. This is the only way that the vacuum can suck the air out of the bag; it uses the rubber gasket as an airtight chamber. Also: I bought the roll of bags that you must cut. If you're lazy try and get the bags pre-cut. If you have different sizes you may safe some money by buying the full un-cut roll. The only drawback is that you'll have to seal both ends...
Does the job..
Overall I thought this product was ok. It does exactly what it says in the product description but the problem I have with this unit is it doesn't have a separate "seal" button. Meaning, it sucks every bit of air out of the bag and will not seal until it's done. Its automatic. So if you want to seal berries or fruit, this may not be the vacuum sealer your looking for as it will likely smash the contents in the bag. Meats and such will be just fine though. Good sealer for the price if you don't care about smashing the contents.
